In the digital era, people are more prone to gluing their eyes on computer screens, laptop, mobile phones for doing official work, watching movies, sports, reading books, booking an appointment etc that deteriorate their eyes and retinal health. Though we understand that smartphones and laptops have become the necessity of today’s life and the possibility of digital detox is almost nil but there are some quick and easy rules that you should blend into your lifestyle to minimize the eye strain and eye-related problems that occur due to endless smartphone/laptop marathon sessions throughout the day.
• Blink more often
One of the major disadvantages of the screen-centered world is that we forget to blink our eyes more often while using smartphones/laptops. To maintain the good health of your eyes and to prevent it from getting dry, remember to blink your eyes 10 times every 20 minutes.
• Follow 20-20-20 rule
Let your eyes say a warm thank you for taking care of them. No matter how important the work is, just follow the 20-20-20 rule. Look 20 feet away for 20 seconds every 20 minutes to maintain the healthy vision of your eyes.
• Take regular breaks
Instead of gluing your eyes for continuous hours to finish your work early, relax your eye muscles by taking regular breaks.
• Adjust screen brightness
Enable screen brightness as per the surrounding you are sitting in. Too much brightness or darkness can take a toll on your eyes health.
• Protective Screens
Though smartphones are less with glass protections, you can coat your laptop screen with anti-glare screens to reduce eyes harm.
• Maintain the distance between eyes and screen
For mobile phones, there should be a minimum distance of 16 inches and for laptops/computer, implement the one stretched arm distance to prevent eyes health.
• Enlarge text size
Don’t stress your eyes by minimizing the font size. Set the text size that can be easily read.
• Wear sunglasses
The emission of rays from smartphones and laptops can cause dryness, irritation and other ailments. So, try to wear sunglasses while using gadgets.
• Go the offline way
The activities that can be done without using smartphones like reading books, newspaper, booking an appointment, sending a message to the person sitting in a next room, go for the offline way.
• Healthy diet
It is vital to eat healthy food like a green leafy vegetable, salmon, eggs, oranges, citrus fruits, beans to get nutrients like lutein, zinc, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin C and E to ward off eyes related problems.
• Eye checkup
In the digital world, eye check is a must that every person should go to maintain their eyes health. Knowing the problem early increase the chances of getting cured.
Therefore, it’s a sincere request that doesn’t let your eyes pay the price for your digital addiction. Reduce your screen exposure and take effective steps to protect your eyes health.
