As soon as she tied nuptial knots with Delhi-based entrepreneur Anand Ahuja in Anand Karaj on May 8, 2018, went to Instagram and Twitter to change her surname to “Sonam K Ahuja” in short time.

Daughter of Anil Kapoor who is known as a true feminist and seen standing to fight for the rights of women was criticized by people saying that her action set a wrong example to the millions of women who are forced to change her surname unwillingly under the pressure of the society.

The newlywed said that changing her surname is her personal choice. It’s nowhere related to feminism in any sense.

Moreover, people failed to notice that it is not only Sonam Kapoor who changed her husband Anand Ahuja surname, but her husband also took Sonam’s name as the middle name and changed it to “Anand S Ahuja” after getting hitched.

Anand Ahuja broke all the stereotypes by doing so. He has set a remarkable example for the couples who say that it’s only the woman who needs to change her surname post-wedding. His action perfectly displayed that combining his name with wife’s name means he is combining with a new family.

Marriage is a union of two individuals. It’s all about equality. Neither of the ones is above or below to their partner in any manner. If a wife can change her last name and adapts husband’s surname to show that she belongs to the man’s family, the husband can also opt for it.

Though the whole concept of adding wife’s name to husband’s middle name is relatively new and hard to gulp down, Isn’t it a sweet gesture which a wife would love to see?
