Undoubtedly, starting a new phase of life with better half is an overwhelming moment for a bride as she has to leave her parents behind with whom she had spent glorious years of her life…Although she is excited to unravel the blissful matrimony but the pain and nostalgia are unbearable for a bride. As you are engrossed in packing all the essentials which you need in your new house, there are a few things in your home which you can’t refuse to carry along with you to your new home as a remembrance of your lovely family and dear friends.

Girls are father’s zigar ka tukda and we all know that a girl is more close to her father in comparison to her mother. The bond she shares with her father is unimaginable. Surely, your father would have a favorite pen or anything of which he takes great care of. Ask him to give a favorite thing of his to you as a belonging so that whenever you miss your father in your new home, you can see that item and feel comfort. You may have a pen or something which he had gifted you on your first or 18th birthday, carry all the stuff with safety.

• Your Mother’s favorite Saree

Hehe..all the girls have spent significant time standing before the dressing table to drape the saree which your mother’s like the most or your favorite from her saree’s collection. You may have also dreamt to keep that favorite saree with you for a lifetime. It’s a perfect moment. Ask your mother for the saree you always wanted to wear or on which you found your mother more beautiful. Believe it or not, you can see the happiness on her face and tears of joy in her eyes as you want to take her memories along with you.

• A cartoonist sketch of yours drawn by your sibling

No costly greeting card can match up to the cartoonist sketch which your younger brother or elder sister made for you to give you as a gift on your birthday. The sentiments and love attached with that handmade greeting card are beyond explanation. It’s only you who knows the value of that creativity your sibling thought to give you as a child. Although you might have had an innumerous fight with your brother/sister, it would be something which will take you to the memory lane of childhood which you have shared with your beloved bhai and sis.

Jewellery is woman’s first love. There would be a ring which you love when your mother used to wear it, a Payal (anklet) which your sister bought for you years ago, or a bracelet (hand band) which your close friend purchased especially for you when she went on a trip. Although there is no comparison to ‘Maa ke hath ka khana’ but there would be that special dish which no one can cook like your mom. Note down the recipe of your mother of your favorite dish, the love which she poured along with all the ingredients to make it delicious for you. In India, there is a custom that a newlywed bride has to show her culinary skills. Prepare the dish they way your mom use to make and serve it to impress your mother-in-law and husband. Your Mumma will also feel overwhelmed that you started your cooking with that trademark recipe of hers.

• Family photographs

The world is getting digital. People have mobiles, pen drives, memory card to keep the photographs safe with them but even in today’s era, there is no explanation to the emotions which a person feel when he/she sees an album of family photographs. Carry all the memories along with you in your new home. Frame those photos and hang them on your bedroom wall so that whenever you open your eyes in the morning, the first thing you acknowledge is their happy faces.

• Slambook/Diary

Agree that we all have a slambook or a diary in our cupboard in which our school and college friends have written some special messages for us and we all get emotional whenever we turn those pages. These are the memories which make us feel that those valuable gems are still beside us no matter how far are they living now.
