The five day long festival of Deepawali commences with the Dhanteras. Popularly known as Dhanteras or Dhan Triyodashi is the Hindu festival which is celebrated two days before the main Diwali festival. Dhan means wealth and teras states the thirteenth day of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month, therefore on this day, Goddess Laxmi is worshipped along with Kuber to prosperity and good fortune.
Things to buy on Dhanteras
Gold/Silver
It is considered auspicious to buy gold or silver in any form on Dhanteras, it may be a gold coin, gold jewelry, silver idols of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Laxmi. It is believed that goddess Laxmi showers her blessings on the people who buy gold or silver on this day. Buying of Gold or silver items brings good fortune, wealth, and prosperity in the house. If you can’t afford to buy Gold coin, you can go for silver coin.
Broom
It is believed that Goddess Laxmi arrives on the occasion of Diwali and Maa Laxmi resides only in neat and clean places. so, on the auspicious day of Dhantrayodashi, one should buy the broom. It symbolizes that purchasing broomstick (Jhadu) removes poverty from the house.
Utensils
It is an old age tradition to buy utensils during Dhanteras. You can even buy a spoon or a bowl according to your wish. Doing this attracts wealth and happiness in the house and is a symbol of good luck.
Coriander Seeds
One may not aware of the significance of coriander seeds on Dhanteras. At some places, coriander seeds (dhania) is purchased on the occasion of Dhanteras. Dhaniya is considered as the symbol of wealth. due to this, coriander seeds are offered to Goddess Laxmi while worshipping. Keep few seeds in the vault (Tijori) after the completion of puja.
Gomti Chakra
Gomti Chakra is very dear to Goddess Laxmi. hence, buying Gomti chakra on the significant day of Dhanteras is considered highly auspicious as it is believed that people are blessed with wealth and prosperity who worship Gomti chakra and later kept 11 pieces of Gomti chakra wrapped in red cloth in a vault.
Pen and diary
It is of great benefit for the businessman. There should buy pen and diary or a register to maintain their accounts and expenses. Keep these items or the things which are related to your profession in front of the Goddess Laxmi, draw a swastika on them and tie a red kalawa (Roli) and pray for the good fortune and ward off any hurdles come in between your success.
