The wedding ceremony is always filled with fun, happiness, and enjoyment along with different customs.Indian weddings include numerous rituals and traditions. Apart from many ceremonies whether its Mehandi or Saat Phere, here comes a ceremony, i.e., Kanyadaan in between which purely showcase the feelings and emotions of a father.

Kanya Daan is a heart-wrenching moment for the bride and her parents especially her father as we all are aware that while son is more close to his mother and father shares a strong bond of love and care with his daughter. Though a father seems tough and rigid from outside, it’s only her daughter whose smile can melt his heart and filled it with happiness.

According to myths, girls are always called as Paraya Dhan. Since her birth, he already knows that she belongs to someone else yet Kanya Daan becomes a difficult moment for bride’s father. Fathers are generally closed with their daughters and giving her away is an utmost sacrifice.

Significance of Kanya Daan

In this ritual father with a heavy heart placed his daughter’s right hand to groom’s right hand and asks for a promise to take care of her and love her through out his life and gives her responsibility to the groom. Parents keep fast for the whole day to perform this holy ritual. In the Hindu mythology, the Bride represents the goddess Laxmi, the famous deity of Hindus while the bridegroom is considered as the incarnation of Lord Vishnu and through this ritual, the father offers her precious possession to God (the groom). Kanyadaan is considered as the ultimate Daan in Indian traditions. It is said that Kanya Daan frees away them from every sin they have done knowingly or unknowingly in past births.
