Wedding is a special and remarkable milestone for both bride and groom. More than the groom, it immensely affects a bride. Though it’s a dream of every girl to find a tall, dark, handsome and soft hearted prince charming and to get married one fine day though it’s an emotional and unforgettable day of her life as she has to begin a new colorful phase of life with her better half leaving her blood relations behind. The wedding is an occasion for fun, dance and Masti yet it’s only a bride and her parents which go through the most pain.
There are many rituals that are full of joy, enjoyment, and merriment. Haldi, Mehandi, and Sangeet are the traditional ceremonies which are being followed whether it’s a south Indian wedding or a north Indian wedding. Customs and rituals may vary and would perform distinctively but the sole reason behind every ritual is similar and has the same significance. Everyone can be seen enjoying, dancing to the music beat, laughing and having the fun of each other and tasting delectable cuisines to the fullest.
There are few other ceremonies like Kanya Daan, Sath Phere, and Vidaai which turns out to be an emotional moment for everyone. Kanyadaan is that special moment when a bride’s hand is to be given to groom’s hand by bride’s father having a promise from a groom to take care of her and love her with all his life. Sath Phere is yet another and memorable moment where bride and groom takes seven sacred rounds of holy Agni Kund promising each other the seven vows that they will respect each other and each other’s family, love selflessly and will stand by each other during hard times and encourage each other to do good during bad times and promise each other to support one another through out their lives. Right after the Sath Phere, one can not forget to admire the pious moment when the Groom puts vermilion (red sindoor) in bride’s Maang (partition of hairs) and ties mangal-sutra around her neck.That is the time which a girl awaits for her whole life. It is an extraordinary and remarkable moment as from now onwards sindoor (vermillion) and mangal-sutra becomes her identity.
Then there comes Vidaai or Bidaai ceremony, a heart-wrenching ritual where bride’s parents, her siblings, and relatives bid a teary eyed farewell and accompany her to the vehicle with the blessings to start a new and happy married life with her partner. On reaching Groom’s home, Grah Pravesh ritual is been performed in which a bride has to hit a rice filled Kalash before entering into the new house. Though wedding starts with enjoyment and amusement but with each passing ceremony and ritual it slowly converts into an emotional affair.
