Legends Behind The Worship Of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Laxmi Together
According to legends, there is a cute story behind it, Once Lord Vishnu and goddess Lakshmi had an argument that she is the most worship-worthy in the world and everyone praises her, and by her grace, a person can get all the luxury of this world and becomes the happiest person. By hearing the self-praising by Goddess lord Vishnu said to her for reducing her ego,“You are having all the qualities, still you did not feel the joy of motherhood till now and for a lady, the motherhood joy is the most important thing in this universe.” By hearing this goddess Lakshmi feels disheartened and in the pain, she went to her beloved friend goddess Parvati and told her about the problem. Since Parvati had two sons, she requested the goddess to let her adopt one of her one child and let her experience the joy of motherhood. Parvati was hesitant to let Lakshmi adopt Her son because it was known that Lakshmi does not stay in one place for long. So, she would not be able to take care of Her son. But Lakshmi assured Her that She would take care of Her son in every possible way and bestow Him with all the happiness, love and care. Understanding Lakshmi’s pain, goddess Parvati let her adopt Ganesha as her son.Goddess Lakshmi became delighted and said that she will bestow Ganesha with all her accomplishments and prosperity. And those worshipping Lakshmi for wealth and fortune would first have to worship Ganesha to seek her blessings. Those who will worship Goddess Lakshmi without Lord Ganesha will not be blessed by the Goddess.Hence from than Lakshmi is always worshipped after the Puja Of Lord Ganesha on Diwali. As gaining wealth without will only result in misusing the wealth. So, one must first obtain the intelligence to spend the wealth accordingly. Hence, as an incarnation of mother and son Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha are worshipped together.
People worship these two deities together to welcome wealth along with intelligence. Since no celebration is deemed complete without invoking Lord Ganesha, Diwali is no exception either.
